Our Story

Built by family. Still run by family.

Park Glenview was built in 1978 by Oakland contractor Mort Howard, in response to a real need for affordable senior housing. Nearly fifty years later, it's still owned and operated by his family.

Where It All Began

Park Glenview Senior Apartments was built in 1978 by Oakland contractor Mort Howard, after the idea was brought before the city's affordable housing board. Oakland needed more than just affordable housing, it needed affordable housing built specifically for seniors. Since then, the building has stayed in the Howard family, now managed day to day by Mort's youngest daughter, Felicia. It's rare to find an 84-unit building in a city like Oakland that's still family owned, and that's something we're genuinely proud of.

A Family You Can Actually Call

Instead of a distant management company, you get us: people who know this building inside and out and genuinely care how residents are doing. We think of Park Glenview as a reflection of our own family, so keeping it clean, safe, and welcoming has always mattered to us. It's common for prospective residents to tell us, after touring other communities, how well kept our building and grounds are. And because we're Oakland based too, when something needs attention, it gets handled fast.

"We think of Park Glenview as a reflection of our own family."

Independent Living, Simplified

Park Glenview is a cozy, boutique community for older adults who are still very much living life on their own terms, just without the hassle of maintaining a whole household. We also love working with adult children and young families helping a parent settle into the Bay Area. For many residents, moving here means keeping their independence while letting go of the parts of homeownership that stopped being fun a long time ago.

Built to Feel Safe, Priced to Stay

Senior housing asks more of a building than most other apartments do. Residents deserve a clean, secure home where the rules are applied fairly and everything is kept up to code, and that's something we take seriously every single day.

We also know most of our residents are on a fixed income, so we've made it a point to avoid annual rent increases whenever we can. Our rents typically run 30 to 35 percent below comparable apartments nearby, because keeping this a place people can actually afford matters more to us than squeezing out extra profit.

Housing, Not Care

One thing we want to be upfront about: Park Glenview is housing, not medical care or assisted living. Being clear about that helps us do right by the residents who choose to live here, and it helps make sure Park Glenview stays a great fit for people who are ready for independent living.

"For our family, this has never just been a business."

A Personal Commitment

For our family, this has never just been a business. We're here, we're reachable, and we care about the people who call Park Glenview home. Every decision we make comes back to one simple goal: keeping this a safe, well-kept, and genuinely happy place to live, today and for years to come.

We hope you'll come see for yourself why so many families choose to call it home.
